Political bias and the hypocrisy of the masses.

By: Michael D. Jacobsen

You see this just about every day, presented by whichever political leaning the news media outlet that releases the story happens to have. And sadly, you can also see the same thing going on between those that consider themselves “liberals” and those that consider themselves “conservatives”. And to further the sadness, if you try to point out that one or the other is truly leaning towards hypocrisy, you instantly get dismissed as being either a liberal or conservative, depending on which political view you are pointing this out against. It really is a form of cognitive dissonance.

There have been cases of one politician speaking out, and then getting demonized for their words. Yet, a politician who says far worse on the left/right divide is praised as a hero, and a role model for our children. This is truly a sad state of affairs, and one that we, as a society, should try and avoid, but seem to be falling into like some sort of mental trap.

I am, of course, referring to the recent comments of the newly-elected Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who has made headlines for her statement regarding the current United States President, Donald Trump. I am not going to bother to repeat what was said. If you really do not know, just do a quick internet search. Her comments are excused by the left, because Donald Trump said words which were also distasteful in a recorded conversation, as well as in comments after he became President, which are excused by those on the right. For some reason, rather than realize that both of these are wrong, people perform mental gymnastics to think it is all perfectly fine. It is not fine, and both sides should be criticized. Children make excuses for their negative actions; adults should know the difference between right and wrong. Full disclosure: I supported Gary Johnson, but I was none too thrilled with certain comments he made during his campaign, either (again…look it up).

It is not only this, but we must also look toward broken promises that politicians on both the left and the right continue to make, then completely ignore. We make excuses, rather than demand promises to be kept. This has lead to the sad acceptance of the idea that “all politicians lie to us”. I cannot tell you how many times I read people writing that, and somehow convince themselves that it is perfectly fine. It is not fine. It is the refusal of the individual to admit that they were fooled, and that they did not look into the beliefs of the person they supported. They just blindly voted for their party.

We can look at cover-ups on both sides, and find people making every excuse they can for them. Even major media does this, in order to continue the fiction of the left/right divide, and people buy into it, depending on their political affiliation. We can look at the examples of Hillary Clinton, erasing tens of thousands of emails ahead of a federal investigation, or the pay-offs of secrecy of Donald Trump and the investigation of Russian meddling in the election. We need not look at the validity of either of these accusations, but people were perfectly willing to defend their favored person without any real evidence to exonerate or implicate that person.

This happens over and over, year after year, with no sign of people becoming any more mature in their decision-making or reasoning process. I have said many times that I believe this is due to the social conditioning that is pushed to people through the media. In my opinion, the mainstream media has become nothing more than a tool to control the thinking of the masses. As long as they can control the way information is passed to people, they can shape the way a person understands that information. It also seems to have a large impact on how a person feels about the information they receive. By having the reporter react a certain way while reporting, it easily influences how the person hearing it will feel towards it.

A great example of how the media uses the left/right divide can be seen in the current discussion over the border wall. The left media outlets make it seem that everyone on the right wants a wall, and no discussion is possible. The right media outlets make it seem everyone on the left wants the border to be wide open and just allow people to come and go as they please.  Any discussion, such as increasing the border patrol or some other form of solution, has become impossible. This is because the mainstream media has effectively controlled the discussion (and therefore most of the thinking) on this matter.

The best advice I can give to you is that if you get news from any of the mainstream news sites, always question if they are trying to spin what they are saying. Look for more follow up details from other news sources to find out what they omitted, and why they chose to keep it from you. Never trust what mainstream media puts out; its main goal is to convince you to ignore obvious wrongs, and make you feel good about doing so.
