Media outlets are a major source for information. More and more people look to the internet to reach these outlets and therefore expand the scope of their knowledge. Yet there is an effort to make sure you do not find these outlets and only listen to mainstream news.
Recently there was a coordinated effort to remove Alex Jones and his site Infowars from Facebook, Twitter, and various other websites. When it happened it was claimed that his site was taken down for violating policy, but everyone knew that was a false excuse. We also knew that the banning of his site was just the beginning of what has become many sites being deleted, suspended, or otherwise silenced. In August Facebook removed 652 sites which tried to influence world politics. The claim was that these were fake sites, but it was interesting to note that while many sites currently on Facebook do try to influence world politics, these sites were specifically targeted. Then in the past week 559 more pages were deleted or removed from Facebook, and most were also removed from Twitter. The reason behind these were that these sites tried to influence US politics before the mid-term elections.
This really translates to the sites promoted politics that Twitter and Facebook did not like, so they chose to remove them. There are plenty of sites that influence politics, Facebook is just making sure you only receive information from sites who’s politics and viewpoints they approve of and want to promote.
More and more it seems like our news and media outlets are becoming more like what was envisioned in the novel 1984 by George Orwell. Soon enough our media will try to say something like “We never have been at war with Iraq, Iraq has always been our friend.” That is not to say they are going to directly lie to all of us all the time, but it has become clear that the media often omits facts to make a story fit a certain narrative. And lets face it, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, NBC, CBS, they all do it, and do it often. Look at most of their articles, most give you the barest of details yet if you question them many people jump online to criticize you for daring to ask questions of major media.
Add to this that all these media outlets also promote social correctness. Anyone who says anything even slightly out of line is pointed out and shamed in these media spaces. This has led to people self correcting others so that now in essence the people do the work social media started to do. The more we let media control our thoughts and actions, the more power they have over us all. It is subtle, which is why the vast majority of people do not even notice it.
The recent rise in the popularity of the NPC meme shows that some people are already catching on as to just how programmed people have become. That people, without doing any research on their own will just use media talking points to defend what they believe. These people will regurgitate these points in absence of any facts and think they are doing something wonderful when they are doing this. What it really does, is provide a terrifying example of how the media conditions us to respond, yet not think.
While I will point out exactly what the media and social media sites are doing, which is social programming, I feel that I still need to point out that these are private companies and they are within their right to do exactly as they see fit. It is their property, and therefore they are allowed to do whatever they like, even if it is clear they are using it to limit people’s thought. The point of all this is to make you aware of the fact that you are being programmed.
I am not going to tell you to boycott Facebook or Twitter, I still use these sites. Just be aware of exactly what they are trying to do to you. I do encourage you to find alternative social media sites out there (they do exist, and are growing). Social programming on major social media sites has become the norm. The people who are not aware will fall into the pattern they want without ever knowing how they have been used.
The best advice I can give you is to examine how much of what you view is being packaged into a box. And then wonder why people think you should be placed into that box. Free thinkers do not need a Big Brother to do their mental cleansing for them. When you feel comfortable with the feeds you get through Facebook and Twitter, there is a very good chance that you are in a bubble that makes sure you learn nothing other than what they want to reinforce someone else’s ideas.
